The Lead for Ghostbusters 2020 is an 'Off the Charts Smart' 12-Year-Old Girl

There was a huge chunk of fans that complained about the Ghostbusters reboot from 2016, claiming that the film was trying to push a feminist agenda by having an all-woman cast. Those same people then breathed a sigh of relief when a Ghostbusters 3 was announced, but too bad for them—the lead is going to be a young woman.

This was confirmed by insider Daniel Richtman who put out the casting call for the film:

With the movie taking place in the same universe as the original Ghostbusters, my guess is that this girl (along with the other three main characters) will attempt to revive the business. My guess is that she's the daughter of Egon Spengler. Her character description is very similar to Egon's, and it would make sense that she would have a fascination with ghosts, seeing that her father had passed away.

While it hasn't been confirmed, I have suspicions that this movie will be based on Max Landis' pitch for Ghostbusters 3. He had posted up the story for everyone to read online, but the pitch had recently been taken down. In that story, one of the main characters was also Spengler's daughter who was a techie who had an obsession with contacting her father in the afterlife. The story didn't have her as a 12-year-old girl though.

I'm excited to have an actual return to the original Ghostbusters universe, and I have no qualms that director Jason Reitman will deliver a great film.

Ghostbusters 3 is set to come out the summer of 2020.
