The Last Kingdom: Alexander Dreymon Discusses Uhtred's Fate in Seven Kings Must Die

The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die is finally on Netflix and people are talking about what happened to Uhtred of Bebbanburg. But what does Alexander Dreymon have to say about his character's fate? Dreymon discussed his thoughts on Uhtred's destiny in the Netflix film.

Alexander Dreymon played Uhtred for five seasons of The Last Kingdom and he reprised the role in the full-length film Seven Kings Must Die. So it would make sense that he understands the character he has portrayed for the past eight years and would be the one who is affected by what happened in the Netflix movie.

So what did Dreymon think of Uhtred's fate in The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die? Interestingly, he admitted that he was satisfied with the film's conclusion.

"I'm actually very happy with the way that it ends because there's that ambiguity. You see everything that he's fought for his whole life and he’s believed in… because the idea of Valhalla and heaven has been such a big character in the show in a way," Dreymon told RadioTimes.

"And that he has the option of going to the feast hall – that he aches for so much – is beautiful to see. But it really shows that he's a man who's had a full life and who is loved by the people who are still there."

In Seven Kings Must Die, Uhtred finally swears Northumbria to Aethelstan, allowing him to be the King of Wessex, Mercia, East Anglia and Northumbria. After swearing allegiance to Aethelstan, Uhtred experiences a vision of Valhalla where he sees his fallen companions but he is still connected to the living. The film ends with Finan somehow confirming that seven kings did, in fact, die.

The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die is now streaming on Netflix.
