The Last Jedi's Rian Johnson Loved Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

It looks like "hardcore" Star Wars fans are about to hate Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, as The Last Jedi director, Rian Johnson likes the movie. Dun dun dun. Jokes aside, who doesn't like Into the Spider-Verse? Anyone who has seen it knows that it strikes the perfect balance between entertaining, smart, and heartwarming, with a lot of love going to the main hero himself Miles Morales.

On Twitter, Johnson said that he has "seen the light," claiming that Into the Spider-Verse is his favorite superhero movie and even claimed that its the Velvet Underground of that genre. That's a lot of praise for this film and it means a lot to those that enjoyed his work in The Last Jedi and Looper. Fans can't even claim that this is Johnson pleasing his Disney overlords as the film is a Sony product.

Sony has to be pleased with all of the positive buzz surrounding the film. Into the Spider-Verse has already won a Golden Globe for the best animated film of 2018 and we can only hope that the Academy Awards gives it some love, though that will probably be in 2020 since it just missed getting the nomination.

Now that this movie is a success, many are expecting Sony to take advantage of the positive press with sequels and spin-offs. Reports claimed that Gwen Stacy will lead an all-female group, though that will likely come out after the second movie that puts the spotlight on Spider-Man 2099.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse may or may not be showing in theaters. Expect a Blu-Ray release soon.
