The Internet Continues Blasting The Good Doctor, Here’s Why

The Good Doctor is one of the most popular medical drama shows on ABC, which has been taking over the Internet for some time now.

It first began with how a viral tweet pointed out that Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore), the main protagonist of the show who is an autistic doctor, could ‘easily tell’ that a transgender person should 'not be able to change their gender.’

In an attempt to claim that people in the spectrum are technically transphobic, given that they have been represented as a surgeon in the series, one fanatic of the show corrected that that was not the message of the episode at all.

In fact, the fan clearly stated that the episode is ‘teaching Shaun about transpeople’ and by the end of it, has understood and accepted their existence.

That’s just scratching the surface, though. In fact, this has snowballed into many Twitter users finding out how inaccurate the show’s depiction of autism.

What first made the series stand out in having 'good' representation for autism has become a complete turnaround as one particular viral video changed their minds about the show.

The video in question is when Shaun has had a breakdown while passionately and aggressively claiming he is a surgeon, a stereotypical misconception of how autistic people respond to stressful situations. You can check out the video below:

While many found this clip absurd to look at, leading many memes and jokes taken out of it, the other half of the fandom began debunking how the show is harmful to the audience in ‘studying’ people under the spectrum.

Apart from its inaccurate representation, it has been revealed that no autistic person was present in helping with penning the script and producing the show.

It doesn’t help the case either that the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory star Freddie Highmore has been found to be in support of a hate group called Autism Speaks, an organization seeking to harm and miseducate the people about autism.
