The Game Awards: Here Are All of the (Unsurprising) Game of the Year Contenders

It's that time of the year again; The Game Awards will premiere on December 6 and fans are eager to see their favorite titles get the love they deserve. After a stellar year of gaming, the nominees for Game of the Year are far from surprising but are still great choices and will put a smile on the faces of anyone with a gaming system (or a PS4).

Without further ado, the Game of the Year nominees are:

Considering the buzz surrounding Red Dead Redemption 2, it's easy to assume that the game was nominated before it came out. It already received near-perfect scores from critics and fans are also in love with all of the little details found while playing.

God of War is another great choice, as the game managed to set itself apart from previous installments and was able to tell an emotional story. The developers did a great job making sure that this game would be accessible to newer players but also fulfilling for longtime fans that love the previous games.

Marvel's Spider-Man set the standard for superhero games and future Marvel titles, though it's not an extraordinary title. It has a lot of modern gaming conventions that would have annoyed most players had it not been for the web-swinging and excellent writing, like the Arkham combat, which is pretty fun to be fair, and the instant-kill stealth sections. Still a great game though, just a bit unoriginal.

Monster Hunter: World is the first non-Nintendo installment after several years of 3DS games and it did not disappoint. Amazing graphics, fun combat, a ton of fixes from various titles and so much more make this nomination a no-brainer.

Assassin's Creed: Odyssey is basically a better version of Origins with a different setting and that might be enough for some. It has good visuals and decent enough gameplay but those that are tired of Assassin's Creed won't find much new here.

Celeste is the biggest surprise here and will probably win the best Indie game award if not this one. With fast-paced platforming and an emotional narrative, expect a lot of votes for this one.

Catch The Game Awards on December 6 to see who wins.
