Nicolas Cage Disses His The Flash Cameo: "I Did Not Do That"

Earlier this summer, Nicolas Cage made a surprise cameo appearance as Superman in The Flash during the multiverse sequence near the end of the film. It was a full circle moment since the actor was supposed to play the Man of Steel in a canceled project back in the '90s.

However, while fans celebrated his appearance in the film, there were also some debates on whether the actor actually shot his cameo on set or not since he looked like a CGI character during his scene.

There were also some concerns that the studio may have used artificial intelligence (AI) to digitally recreate his '90s appearance to make his cameo appearance in the film happen.

Now, the actor has finally set the record straight and gets candid about what he actually thought of his cameo in the film.

Nicolas Cage Reveals He Didn't Do His Scene in The Flash Despite Showing Up on Set

Speaking with Yahoo! Entertainment, Cage addressed his cameo appearance in The Flash where he clarified that he did shoot his cameo in the film although the final cut did not exactly reflect the actual scene that he shot when he was on set.

"First and foremost, I was on set. They did put a lot of time into building the suit... and I think [director Andy Muschietti] is a terrific director, he is a great guy and a great director, and I loved his two It movies," he said.

"What I was supposed to do was literally just be standing in an alternate dimension, if you will, and witnessing the destruction of the universe. Kal-El was bearing witness [to] the end of a universe, and you can imagine with that short amount of time that I had, what that would mean in terms of what I can convey."

Cage continued, "I had no dialogue [so had to] convey with my eyes the emotion. So that’s what I did. I was on set for maybe three hours."

However, when the Oscar winner finally saw the film, a different scene showed up instead where he was seen fighting a giant spider. He revealed that he did not shoot the sequence that ended up in the final cut.

"When I went to the picture, it was me fighting a giant spider. I did not do that. That was not what I did. I don’t think it was [created by] AI. I know Tim [Burton] is upset about AI, as I am," Cage shared.

"It was CGI, OK, so that they could de-age me, and I’m fighting a spider. I didn’t do any of that, so I don’t know what happened there. But I get where Tim's coming from. I know what he means. I would be very unhappy if people were taking my art... and appropriating them. I get it."

Cage also expressed his frustration over AI, "I mean, I’m with him in that regard. AI is a nightmare to me. It’s inhumane. You can’t get more inhumane than artificial intelligence."

As most fans have suspected, Cage did not physically shoot his cameo scene that ended up in the final cut and it's all just a CGI recreation of a younger version of him.

It does open up a question of why they didn't use the actual scene that Cage shot on set where it would have been the actor himself doing the performance, but that is reserved for Muschietti since he is the only one who knows the answer.
