It has been half a year since the film’s Japanese release, and finally, fans in the US will soon be able to watch the new Slam Dunk movie. Recently, GKIDS confirmed that The First Slam Dunk will be released in US cinemas this July.
The announcement was accompanied by the reveal of the film’s English dub cast. This means the new Slam Dunk animated film will come with both English sub and dub options for American viewers.
GKIDS Reveals The First Slam Dunk English Dub Cast
GKIDS confirmed the release date and cast recently via its social media channels. These details were revealed alongside a new English-dubbed trailer.
The film’s English dub cast features the following voice actors:
- Paul Castro Jr. (Kei in Belle) as Ryota Miyagi
- Jonah Scott (Raiden Shuga in 86) as Hisashi Mitsui
- Aleks Le (Mash Burnedead in Mashle) as Kaede Rukawa
- Ben Balmaceda (Jiro Yakuin in More Than a Married Couple, But Not Lovers) as Hanamichi Sakuragi
- Aaron Goodson as Takenori Akagi
- Zeno Robinson (Hawks in My Hero Academia) as Kiminobu Kogure
- Kelsey Jaffer as Ayako
- Mike Pollock (Adon Coborlwitz in Berserk) as Mitsuyoshi Anzai
- Adam McArthur (Yuji Itadori in Jujutsu Kaisen) as Sota Miyagi
- Alicyn Packard (Carla Jaeger in Attack on Titan: The Final Season) as Kaoru Miyagi
The First Slam Dunk marks the long-awaited return of the iconic basketball franchise.
What makes it even more of a must-watch for fans is that the film is directed by series creator Takehiko Inoue.
As for its story, this movie is a direct follow-up to the 90s anime as it follows the Shohoku High basketball team as they go up against Sannoh High School.

The First Slam Dunk Movie Gets Official US Release Date
This Slam Dunk movie was released in Japan in late December 2022, and this was followed by cinema screenings in select countries in Asia. This is not too surprising given how popular Slam Dunk is in Asia.
Thanks to its enduring popularity, the film became a big box office hit, enough that it became the fifth highest-grossing anime movie of all time.
Finally, fans in the US and Canada can look forward to watching The First Slam Dunk when it releases in cinemas on July 28, 2023.
Though ahead of its wide release, the movie will get its English subtitled premiere at Anime Expo on July 3, 2023.
