The Final Fantasy XIII Trilogy Looks Better Than Ever on Xbox One

In an interesting bit of news, Microsoft has made the controversial Final Fantasy XIII trilogy backward-compatible for the Xbox One, so if you have 360 copies of the game, you can now re-experience them on your current-gen console. Some fans might wonder why you would want to do that since these games have a lot of flaws, despite great graphics and decent-enough characters.

Well, thanks to Digital Foundry and Eurogamer, we now know that these games have received a huge upgrade on the Xbox One X. While Final Fantasy XIII has received decent enough improvements, the sequels - XIII-2 and Lightning Returns - now run in 4K, showing that Microsoft has gone the extra mile to make these Final Fantasy games look better. Simply put, these might be some of the best backward-compatible games in the Xbox One X.

Granted, the qualities of each game might not hold up but there are people who enjoy the XIII trilogy. Though praised early and gaining high scores at the time, the first game was criticized for being extremely linear and only opening up by the end, while the second installment was praised for including more exploration but had a pretty messy story. Not much can be said for the third, which might be the worst of the trilogy.

All three games can be purchased on the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. Some might consider the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy a black eye in the Final Fantasy franchise but there are worse installments.
