The Falcon and The Winter Solider has Officially Begun Filming

With the closing of the Infinity Saga last April with the release of Avengers: Endgame, fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been clamoring for details on its highly-anticipated Phase Four set to kick off next year and today was their lucky day. It seems that of the wide roster of films and series that were announced during this year's D23 Expo, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will be the Studios' inaugural bet, with its executive producer Malcolm Spellman sharing a photo from their first day of filming.

In the Instagram post captioned, "Day 1," Spellman showed a photo of his personalized chair on set and further went on to describe how it's a "huge day" for a lot of people and that as per usual, Marvel is not allowing any photos from the set as of the moment.

The new show will follow Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie reprising their roles as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier and Sam Wilson/Falcon, respectively. It has been confirmed to be set after the events of Avengers: Endgame and will also see the return of Emily VanCamp as SHIELD agent Sharon Carter, Daniel Bruhl as Baron Zemo, and the debut of Wyatt Russell as John Walker/US Agent.

The six-episode series will focus on the lives of Wilson and Barnes as they step up to the role Captain America left for them. In an episode of Fatman Beyond last July, the screenwriter also discussed with Kevin Smith how Sam's storyline will serve as one of the show's main plot points and that it involves how the government is against his takeover as the new Captain America. Bucky's arch, on the other hand, will focus on him transforming into the White Wolf and finally putting the persona of the Winter Soldier behind him.

"It's going to be so cool and kind of crazy. All I can say is it's just new and different from what you've seen so far," Sebastian Stan said during a recent appearance at the Fandemic Tour. "I mean, it will be totally in line with everything that has happened and what we've seen and so on, but these characters are getting such additional mileage in terms of learning about who they are now, what they feel, what they're thinking, and there's a lot of action, comedy, you know there's going to be comedy. I feel like you're going to be happy. I think you're going to be very happy."

Sounds promising. Although we have yet to learn more details about this upcoming show, just like with all of Marvel's developing projects, we could probably look forward to more great callbacks and great exchanges between these two characters.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is expected to premiere on Disney+ sometime in the Fall of 2020. Some of Marvel's other upcoming projects include The Eternals on November 6, 2020, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings on February 12, 2021, WandaVision in Spring 2021, Loki in Spring 2021, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness on May 7, 2021, Spider-Man 3 on July 16, 2021, What If…? in Summer 2021, Hawkeye in Fall 2021, Thor: Love and Thunder on November 5, 2021, and Black Panther 2 on May 6, 2022.
