While the show’s TV and streaming premiere is still months away, HIDIVE announced that The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 will get a world premiere at Anime Expo this July.
Specifically, lucky fans of the anime will be able to watch the first episode ahead of everyone else. And the best part is, both the sub and dub versions of Episode 1 will be screened.
The Eminence in Shadow Quickly Gets Renewed for a Second Season
The Eminence in Shadow is an anime series that’s based on the light novel of the same name, and it began airing in Fall 22. Though because of its unusual episode count, the show only ended in the middle of the Winter 23 season.
While the show may have been overshadowed by other Fall titles like Bleach: TYBW and Bocchi the Rock!, this isekai anime quickly gained a big fanbase, enough that it was one of the most-talked-about shows early this year.
Thanks to its popularity, the show was quickly renewed for a second season, which was revealed shortly after the Season 1 finale.
This is quite a surprise for many, especially as other big hitters of 2022 have not gotten second-season announcements yet.
What’s even more impressive is that the next season will air later this year, meaning fans won’t even need to wait a year before the anime’s return.
Of course, the second season won’t be as long as the first, as it is confirmed to have only 12 episodes. For reference, Season 1 is 20 episodes long.

Anime Expo 2023 to Feature The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 Japanese and English Premieres
It’s likely that work on Season 2 started right after Season 1, especially now that HIDIVE announced that the second season’s first episode will be screened at Anime Expo 2023 for the first time.
Typically, anime get premiere events like these weeks or maybe a month before their broadcast begins, so it’s unprecedented for this premiere to happen.
In fact, this is the first time that HIDIVE is doing a dual world premiere.
What also makes this a special case is that the Japanese and English dub versions will be premiered during the event.
Plus, there will be a stage event following both screenings featuring selected voice cast members.
The Eminence in Shadow Season 2 Episode 1 will premiere at Anime Expo on July 1 at 12:15 PM PDT for the English-subtitled version.
Meanwhile, the English dub version will premiere on July 4 at 11:00 AM PDT.
