Warner Bros. Film Head Calls Aquaman “Cool” And “Badass”

The DC Extended Universe might not have been able to find its footing after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, but it looks like the Warner Brothers studio's now pretty confident with the superhero franchise now that James Wan's Aquaman standalone is on the way.

Speaking together with Entertainment Weekly, Warner Brother's Film President Toby Emmerich goes on to vouch for the upcoming superhero film, saying that Aquaman is going to steer the DCEU in the right direction.

"I think it's hard in superhero movies to go to places you haven't seen before," Emmerich told the publication. "You think of how much superhero content there is in theaters and television and [streaming], it's hard to go to someplace you haven't been before. Aquaman and the underwater world of it all is fresh and different. James Wan has done an incredible job with his team. It's taking you to a different place and imagining it in a way you haven't seen before. For a superhero movie to be in that realm is cool and badass."

The WB head honcho also went on showering Wan with praise, calling the Aquaman director a "franchise maker and builder." Acknowledging his role in building The Conjuring universe and the Insidious franchise, Emmerich says that Wan is "an inspired choice" for the DCEU.

Given all the great things that Emmerich has been saying about Aquaman, it seems we definitely can expect something better from the DCEU this time around. Sure, Wonder Woman did the same thing by winning the affection of fans and critics alike, but somehow the studio wasn't able to replicate the standalone superhero movie's success with Justice League. Let's hope that Aquaman really does turn things around.

Aquaman makes its premiere on December 21, 2018.
