The Dark Knight: Gambol was Supposed to Survive the Attack from Joker

The Dark Knight celebrates its 10th Anniversary this year, and Michael Jai White, who plays Gambol, has revealed this surprising revelation that his character was supposed to survive his attack from the Joker.

For context, this is the Joker's scene with Gambol:

Talking to THR, White explains:

"I think that people can tell by the strange cut that I never shot a death scene. The character wasn't supposed to be gone. That is something that happened in editing later. You don't see mistakes in a movie of that magnitude. When you see something that is somewhat a mistake or is not clarified, there is something behind that."

Apparently, Gambol was supposed to end up with the GlasgowSmile that the Joker has; he was apparently being saved for a future film, but since Heath Ledger died, they had to make some significant changes to the story.

White continues:

"It was the kind of thing where they had deeper intentions for Gambol; it was a character who was written for future use, I think. There were other plans to do stuff with that character and some things that were cut out. I think it's because of unfortunately losing Heath Ledger."

Though it would have been interesting to see Gambol return, I think it would be all about him seeking revenge on the Joker. Too bad the character couldn't be further explored because of Ledger's untimely demise.

For now, The Dark Knight remains a superhero classic, and is said to be screening at select theaters to celebrate its 10th anniversary. Watch out for it at your local cinemas.
