The Crown Season 5 will premiere next month, but the fictional series is already making headlines for all the wrong reasons. Audiences of The Crown are aware that the series is a work of fiction. But even if this is the case, depicting certain members of the royal family, especially the ones who have already died, can bring about negative emotions.

The Crown Season 5 Will Feature Controversial Storylines

According to reports, three controversial storylines will be included in The Crown Season 5, and they are centered on late royals such as Prince Philip, Princess Diana, and Queen Elizabeth.

The upcoming episodes will detail the previous rumors claiming that Prince Philip was unfaithful to the queen. The subject was already mentioned briefly in the previous season of The Crown, but more storylines centered on the Duke of Edinburgh's alleged affair will be part of Season 5.

Fictional King Charles Tells Queen Elizabeth She Should Be Jailed In The Crown Season 5

According to Daily Mail, there is also one scene wherein King Charles and Queen Elizabeth are arguing. And the former questions his mom's parenting skills. King Charles will also tell the queen in the series that she should be thrown in jail.

But palace insiders stressed that such a confrontation never happened between King Charles and the queen in real life.

The Crown Season 5 will also feature the final moments of Princess Diana's death. It has already been confirmed that the scene of the car crash wouldn't be shown in the upcoming episodes. But the final hours up to the Princess of Wales' passing will be included.

The Crown Season 5 Fictional Scenes Dubbed 'A Barrel-Load Of Nonsense'

But former Prime Minister Sir John Major branded some of the fictional scenes as a barrel-load of malicious nonsense.

"They are fiction, pure and simple. They should be seen as nothing other than damaging and malicious fiction – a barrel-load of nonsense peddled for no other reason than to provide maximum – and entirely false – dramatic impact," he told Daily Mail.

The people behind The Crown Season 5 are also being slammed for their refusal to include a disclaimer in the upcoming episodes. Former culture secretary Nadine Dorries said that it was only fair to include a disclaimer so that viewers wouldn't confuse the fictional series as fact.

"If a program is pure fiction as this series of The Crown obviously is, in the name of fairness and transparency it should clearly state so. It's quite bizarre that it would feature people who are alive today but are bound by protocol and unable to rebut false impressions and invented scenarios, knowing that many viewers would believe them to be real," she said.

However, a spokesperson for the series defended their decision not to include a disclaimer by saying that they never said that the drama was based on historical events.
