Now that Ahsoka will be returning in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, fans have been curious to see what has happened with the character since they last saw her join Sabine Wren to find the young Jedi named Ezra. However, when Ahsoka's voice was heard in The Rise of Skywalker, fans immediately assumed that the character is dead, but it seems like she's still lurking in the galaxy far, far away.

In Episode IX, when Rey gets temporarily beaten by Palpatine, past Jedi voices were heard who urged and helped her defeat the Sith Lord. Amongst the voices heard in the movie, Ahsoka was one of them, resulting in fans thinking she has passed away somewhere down the line.

"I have to wonder with Star Wars fans," The Clone Wars showrunner Dave Filoni told io9. "They seem to watch the movies but they don't take all the lessons. They deal a lot in absolutes, which is very much a Sith thing."

Hinting that Ahsoka is still alive, Filoni gave the example of Luke speaking through the Force to Leia in Empire Strikes Back. "There's no absoluteness that these people are dead," he added. "I mean, some of them we know are dead."

"It doesn't really have any big implications to what I'm doing with the character, to be honest," Filoni continued. "I just thought it was a really fun thing. I thought [director] J.J. [Abrams]'s instinct to be so inclusive with all these various elements of Star Wars and characters [was great]."

Filoni says he thought it would be "a great thing for the actors involved to be a part of something that was just really this celebrating moment of the Star Wars saga," and that he didn't think of it in a "literal way." To him, the movie was "like a different area."

For now, he says he's "in this other timeline," and he admits that he "loves" when people ask about the character. In the meantime, look out for The Clone Wars because there's some "pretty exciting" stuff in store in the final season premiering this Friday.
