The Darksaber finally made its live-action crossover in The Mandalorian and Season 2's subplot revolved around Bo-Katan Kryze's quest to take it back from Moff Gideon. Star Wars fans have long been aware that in order to obtain the saber, one must win it in combat but Star Wars Rebels made some exceptions to the rule and saw fan-favorite character Sabine Wren gift Katan the powerful blade which she ultimately accepted.

This of course created a massive plothole (at least some fans think it is) and left a lot of viewers bewildered because in the Season 2 finale of The Mandalorian, Din Djarin took the Darksaber from Moff Gideon and when he tried giving it to Bo-Katan, she refused the offer and instead wanted to battle Mando for the right to wield the saber.

Even The Book of Boba Fett's latest episode which is basically an extension of The Mandalorian had a brief reference to how Bo-Katan first got a hold of the Darksaber. Now, the question on everyone's mind is: if Bo-Katan once gained possession of the Darksaber without having to go through a "traditional" battle, why couldn't she just accept it from Mando?

The Armorer briefly mentions the "curse" that led to the fall of Mandalore and while she didn't exactly give the matter proper elaboration, it's safe to assume that the curse actually began when Bo-Katan inadvertently accepted the Darksaber from Sabine. And the reason why she probably wants to gain it from battle is not only to redeem herself but to also break the said curse in the process.

The Book of Boba Fett's Episode 5 is now streaming exclusively on Disney+.
