The Batmobile Meets Cars in Upcoming Kids Show Batwheels

The great thing about the DC IP is that it can be spun off to no end, with content being created for both kids and adults. While Batman and his Bat-family have been getting their own TV shows and films, one "character" is going to be center stage in WB's next animated show—the Batmobile.

According to Variety, WB Animation is working on a pre-school series called Batwheels and it will feature the iconic vehicles from Batman as sentient-talking cars. Here's the description:

The show's main crime-fighting crew is led by Bam (The Batmobile), and also includes Bibi (The Batgirl Cycle), Red (The Redbird), Jett (The Batwing) and Buff (The Bat Truck). Together, the sentient super-powered vehicles must navigate the growing pains of being a newly-formed super team, as well as the growing pains that come with just being a kid.

President of WB Animation Sam Register says about Batwheels, "From ‘Batman: The Animated Series' to ‘Teen Titans Go!,' superhero storytelling has definitely been one of our superpowers here at Warner Bros. Animation… We are so excited to bring that expertise over to the preschool space and take something that all kids love, cool vehicles, and give it a turbo boost with Batman!"

While we've gotten spinoffs about classic characters as kids or animal versions of superheroes (e.g., Krypto the Superdog), it seems so wacky that we would get car versions of heroes. No doubt, this will probably test well with kids, and I'm sure there is a lot banking on the merchandising of Batwheels toy cars and tricycles.

No release date has been announced for Batwheels.
