There have been tons of versions of the Dark Knight that has been rebooted for the big screen with their own cool and unique take, and Matt Reeves' The Batman is no exception. The film will star Robert Pattinson as a younger version of the character in something that's "different" and has a "humanist" side of the Caped Crusader.
"I also felt like there have been some great Batman movies, and I didn't want to just do a Batman movie," Reeves told The Daily Beast. "I wanted to do a Batman movie that could be different."
"I pitched them what I would do, and I said, look, I appreciate that you want me to do a Batman movie," Reeves added. "But I don't want to just do a Batman movie; I want to do a Batman movie that has a chance to be something different, and humanist, and can use the metaphors of the genre."
Reeves said helming The Batman is the same reason he took on the Planet of the Apes movies. "Those movies were incredibly personal to me, despite the fact that they were what they were," the director said. "So I made my pitch for what it would be, and to my great pleasure, it turned out that they were totally open to that."
He revealed that he took a "tremendously long time" in working on the script with his partners and that he's "fortunate" to be able to do it since the studio is "open" to the movie "being different." Reeves also teased that one of the most "exciting" parts of helming it is he got to draw in an "incredibly interesting and talented number of actors" to be involved in the film, and to him, "that's been the dream."
Reeves has previously posted a camera test footage and set photos from the movie, which definitely gives off a different vibe from other Batman films. Needless to say, fans can't wait for his take on the character and for what's to come in the movie.
The Batman was originally set for release on June 2021 but was moved to October 1st, 2021.
