Not a lot of actors can say that they've starred in both the Marvel and DC film franchises and it's definitely a distinction to be proud of. Now, Barry Keoghan is adding his name to the elite list and following the success of Eternals, which currently holds an impressive $300 million at the box office, the rising Irish star is set to appear in Matt Reeves' The Batman as Commissioner Jim Gordon's partner named Stanley Merkel.

The name Stanley Merkel may not ring a bell to casual comic book fans but longtime readers of the Batman comics are well-aware of his origin story. Obviously, Merkel is just a supporting character in the film but there could be more to him than meets the eye. In a stunning turn of events, Barry's brother Eric Keoghan may have committed a major blunder with regard to the Druig actor's true involvement in Matt Reeves' reimagining of Gotham City.

Turns out, Eric commented on a fan art saying that his brother has been cast as the Joker in The Batman. A scoop from the popular gossip page deuxmoi seems to support the alleged casting and according to an anonymous tip, Barry will in fact serve as the Clown Prince of Crime to Robert Pattinson's Dark Knight. Keoghan's character has not appeared in both trailer of the upcoming film which only fuels speculation regarding his true role in the DC Universe. If he does end up becoming Mistah J in The Batman, it'll be interesting to see which iteration of the character he'll end up playing but judging by the overall tone of the project, we can definitely expect a more deranged Joker in the film.

The Batman is slated to hit cinemas on March 4, 2022.
