The upcoming Star Wars series The Acolyte is aiming to surpass the accomplishments of the iconic lightsaber fights in The Phantom Menace.

A lot of fans have been looking forward to the release of The Acolyte this summer since it is the first major Star Wars project that is set in the High Republic era and will have a different perspective on the Jedis and Siths.

It was also clear during the first trailer that the series would feature a lot of lightsaber fights throughout the course of the first season to heights that we have not seen in the franchise before.

In a recent interview, The Acolyte star Dafne Keen, who plays alien Jedi Jecki Lon, opened up about the lightsaber fights that they have in store for the upcoming series.

She shared that they were aiming to outdo the iconic Darth Maul fight in The Phantom Menace when they choreographed the scenes.

"Yeah, that was a very frequent conversation we had. It was very much: We want to top the Darth Maul fight — the most iconic fight, I think, in the Star Wars cinematic universe," Keen said.

"It's such an amazing fight and we were all so excited about the saber fights. There's such a skill and a craft to it that it feels so OG Star Wars and feels so impressive when you see it as a viewer."

This adds to the hype surrounding the series since it makes fans curious about why the lightsaber fights in The Acolyte are likely going to look more unique and exciting in the franchise's standard.

The Phantom Menace is certainly a great inspiration for the lightsaber fights and it is interesting to see where they are indeed going to be able to top what the film has accomplished, which is not going to be an easy feat.

The Acolyte is set to premiere with two episodes on Disney+ this June 4.
