The Terminator anime goes back in time, and it will be set in August 1997 in Tokyo, when a computer scientist named Malcom Lee is about to give birth to an AI program that he believes will save the world.

If you’ve watched the Terminator 2: Judgement Day film, August 30, 1997, marks the beginning of Skynet’s freedom from its human creators.

Skynet is an artificially intelligent defense network created by Cyberdyne Systems that will trigger a war between humans and machines. It will launch a global nuclear war that will push humanity to the brink of extinction.

Malcom Lee’s AI program changes the course of the future, but not until Skynet sends the Terminator back in time to kill him along with his three children.

As with other Terminator films, a lone soldier will follow the Terminator to ensure Malcom's and his children’s safety at all costs.

Mattson Tomlin, the Terminator anime’s writer and showrunner, will approach the show “in a way that breaks conventions, subverts expectations, and has real guts.”

However, it's also possible that it will be delayed until 2025, given the number of animated shows Netflix will release in 2024.

For now, make sure to keep an eye out for further updates and announcements.

The Terminator anime was first announced in August 2021, and Netflix released its first teaser during Geeked Week 2023.
