In what is no doubt sad news for BL fans, the Ten Count BL anime has just been canceled due to production issues. The anime’s cancelation was revealed via its official website.

There, a short statement was shared by the anime’s production committee where they apologized to fans who were looking forward to this project’s release.

The film being canceled was received with sadness by some fans. Considering the seemingly tumultuous production that the anime had, its cancelation doesn’t come as too much of a surprise.

The Ten Count Anime’s Tumultuous Production

Ten Count is a Boys’ Love manga that was serialized in Shinshokan’s Dear+ magazine, and it ran between July 2013 to November 2017.

The series follows Tadaomi Shirotani, a man with an extreme fear of germs, enough that he can’t leave the house without gloves on.

Soon, Tadaomi meets Riku Kurose who becomes his counselor so that his mysophobia can be treated. Soon though, their relationship takes a turn.

Thanks to this series’ popularity, an anime adaptation was announced back in 2018. Initially, this anime was set to be a TV series with a 2020 premiere date.

In late 2020, it was revealed that the TV anime was being reconsidered. The next update came in 2022 as the anime became a feature film by East Fish Studio and SynergySP (of Girlfriend, Girlfriend Season 2 fame).

Fans were eagerly awaiting more info on the series in 2023. Sadly, the year passed, and no new update was given. Today, the final update for the anime was revealed, and it’s about the project’s cancelation.

BL Anime Ten Count Is Now Officially Canceled

On the anime’s official website, the staff stated that the anime was canceled due to production issues. What followed was an apology to fans who have been looking forward to the work for years.

It’s not clear what the production issues are, as no other details were shared in the statement.

Whatever the case may be, fans were saddened by the news, especially given how long it has been since the anime was originally announced.

This scenario is rather reminiscent of the Yuri on Ice movie which has not gotten an update for years, to the point that some fans believe it has already been canceled.

Even though Ten Count will no longer get an anime, the manga can still be read in English as it was officially released by VIZ Media’s SuBLime imprint.
