There is little doubt that people are hyped up about Thor: Love and Thunder now that the first teaser has been dropped. But is it possible that we got the release date for the Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel wrong? Taika Waititi has just shared the first official poster and it looks like the director just gave his film a completely new release date!
Taika Waititi shared the new Thor: Love and Thunder poster on this official Twitter account. Although the film is expected to drop later this year, the Jojo Rabbit director tweeted out that the real release date is actually on July 8, 1986.
The "new" (or should we say, old?) release date for Thor 4 is clearly just a joke referencing the 80s themed poster that looks like it might have been the cover art for a hair band's album or a poster for one of those fantasy adventures that were so popular in the 1980s. With that in mind, we can't wait to see Thor: Love and Thunder later this year.
Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, the God of Thunder decides that he will retire from being a superhero and works to find inner peace. However, his efforts are interrupted by Gorr the God Butcher who is threatening to eliminate all gods. To stop the threat before it's too late, Thor recruits the newly-appointed King of New Asgard Valkyrie and his old friend Korg. He also finds himself reunited with Jane Foster, who has become the Mighty Thor.
Thor: Love and Thunder is directed by Taika Waititi and stars Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Chris Pratt, Jaimie Alexander, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, Jeff Goldblum, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel. The film was originally set to premiere in November last year but has since been pushed back to a later release date on July 8, 2022.
