Taika Waititi on the Bright Side of Thor: Love and Thunder's Delay

Marvel Studios is at a halt right now, with several productions stopping development, and though this is a crisis for the industry, Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi remains positive about the delay.

Talking to Total Film (via Games Radar), Waititi has said that the delay is giving him more time to polish the story of the film. He explains:

"…There are a few positive things I can take away [from the Covid-19 crisis]. One of them is that a lot of these films, and films in general, are rushed, or you don't have as much time as you'd want to have on the script and things like that.

"We're still writing Love And Thunder, and I think it's good to just keep writing, and then you know, we'll have a really, really good script. And with writing, especially, you should use as much of that time as possible to get your story right, because you never really get it later on. Film is an industry where you're always complaining about not having enough time. I think, right now, we've given ourselves a huge amount of time to work on all sorts of things, so we may as well use it."

We don't know what he has exactly planned for Love and Thunder, but it has been described as something that will be a lot zanier than Thor: Ragnarok. Personally, I wasn't the biggest fan of how Ragnarok came out, but with Waititi allegedly making use of his time, I'm hoping we get a film that will feel like Waititi is actually taking the movie seriously. As a fan of his work, I just really didn't think that Ragnarok was his best, even comedy-wise. Just imagine a Thor film that had the same amount of heart as Jojo Rabbit; I'm sure Waititi could pull it off if he really wanted to.

We don't really know when production can start again, but I have a feeling that Love and Thunder is aiming for a start next year. Hopefully, by then we get a script that will please the Ragnarok fans as well as the sticklers like me who actually take the franchise seriously.

Catch Thor: Love and Thunder when it hits theaters Feb. 18, 2022.
