Swamp Thing Episode 4 Possibly Introduced New DC Comic Book Villain

We're only getting one season of Swamp Thing but it looks like the DC Universe series still has a few tricks up its sleeve. For instance, the latest episode may have given fans a quick look at a horrifying DC comic book villain who could play a larger role in the show.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers from Swamp Thing Episode 4 so proceed with caution.

In Darkness on the Edge of Town, Dr. Abby Arcane discovers that there is another virus hiding within the swamp. Interestingly, this particular virus is passed on from one person to another when the second victim draws the blood on the first victim. For some reason, it only infects one person at a time and makes them hallucinate their worst fears.

Naturally, it doesn't take long before Abby is infected and rushes to the swamp to get help from Swamp Thing. Unfortunately, she begins to hallucinate before she could find him and is terrorized by a man who seems to be cloaked in shadows. In her hallucinations, she regressed to being a young girl while the man with the raspy voice rants about Abby's mother trying to take her away from him.

Luckily, Swamp Thing manages to save Abby and extract the virus. When he asks her about her hallucination, she admits that the man had haunted her in her dreams when she was younger. However, the nightmares finally went away when her mother died.

So who is this mysterious man? Comic book readers believe that we just got a glimpse at Abby's villainous uncle Anton Arcane, who has been one of Swamp Thing's oldest enemies. In the comics, Anton repeatedly abused Abby as a child and wanted to train her in dark magic. It is still unclear if Swamp Thing will explore more about Anton but he's certainly someone to look out for in the show.

Swamp Thing airs on DC Universe every Friday nights.
