Superman Lives Costume Test Footage Shows Nicolas Cage Romping Around As The Man Of Steel

While it might be a little bit hard to imagine Nicolas Cage as Superman, there was once a time when the National Treasure and Ghost Rider star was actually lined up to become DC's Man of Steel. Long before Warner Brothers started the DC Extended Universe with Zack Snyder's Superman origin movie, Man of Steel, Nicolas Cage had been set to play Kal-El in a project called Superman lives.

The film was supposed to be directed by Tim Burton, however, the production was plagued with a lot of problems that led to rewrites and eventually the exit of Cage in 2000. Now, as Warner Brothers continues building the DC Extended Universe, DC fans get to see footage of Cage wearing his Superman costume for Superman Lives as the film's costume test makes the rounds online.

Check it out down here:

While Cage really doesn't seem to have the best look for the Superman role, the actor is a certified geek, collecting all sorts of comics and figures. The actor was pretty intent to become DC's new Man of Steel – well, that is until the project fell apart.

Such a shame though. The movie would have featured three of Superman's most iconic baddies including Lex Luthor, Brainiac, and Doomsday. We would have also gotten to see Cage take a shot at the Superman role.

At least Cage was able to play Superman – or at least his voice – in Teen Titans GO! To The Movies. Not exactly what the actor wanted with Superman Lives, but close enough if you ask me.
