In what is no doubt an unexpected reveal, Warner Bros. Japan and Wit Studio announced the new Suicide Squad Isekai anime at Anime Expo 2023.
This new anime that’s based on the popular DC antihero group was revealed with a key visual featuring the squad’s most popular member – Harley Quinn.
Following the visual’s release, a new trailer was also shown for the anime.
While the Suicide Squad is a popular group among even casual superhero fans thanks to the two DC live-action movies, an anime take on the group is something that perhaps no one expected, especially from such a notable studio.
Wit Studio Gathers All-Star Staff for Suicide Squad Anime
It’s fair to say that Wit Studio is one of the most well-known anime studios today thanks to their work on the first three seasons of Attack on Titan, Vivy: Fluorite Eye’s Song, and Spy x Family.
While it seemed that Wit Studio has been focusing on original titles and lesser-known IPs (like Ranking of Kings), the studio’s latest project is for one of the biggest superhero franchises in the world.
Given how big the property is, it’s no surprise that Wit Studio enlisted an all-star team for the upcoming anime’s staff.
For starters, the anime will be written by Tappei Nagatsuki and Eiji Umehara of Re:Zero and Vivy fame, respectively.
Also part of the staff is Akira Amano (of Psycho-Pass fame) who is in charge of the character designs. Amano was also the illustrator of the anime’s Harley Quinn visual.
Aside from the staff, there’s not much info yet about the series, though based on the title, this is an isekai anime.

Suicide Squad Isekai Anime Gets Reveal Trailer at Anime Expo 2023
Following the anime’s announcement at Anime Expo, the upcoming Suicide Squad anime's trailer was shared on Warner Bros. Japan’s official channels.
In the trailer, it was revealed that Harley Quinn, the Joker, and Amanda Waller will play key roles in the anime. Presumably, Harley Quinn will be the series’ protagonist.

Based on the snippets from the trailer, it seems like Harley Quinn and the Joker might find themselves in a fantasy world at some point in the series, as with many of today’s popular isekai titles.
For now, there’s no word yet on when the Suicide Squad Isekai anime will be released.
