Stranger Things Star Noah Schnapp Drops Surprising Confirmation About Will's Presumed Sexuality

Stranger Things Season 4 had been a roller-coaster ride, especially for Noah Schnapp's Will Byers, who has been entangled with the Upside Down from the very first season. Only this time, Will is more occupied with some internal dilemmas mainly concerning his sexuality. Thankfully, in a recent interview, Schnapp finally shared a definite answer on Will's presumed sexuality.

When asked by Variety if Will was "wrestling with being gay and coming out" on the latest season of Stranger Things, Schnapp did not hold back this time.

"Yeah, I think it is," he responded. "Obviously, it was hinted at in Season 1: It was always kind of there, but you never really knew, is it just him growing up slower than his friends? Now that he’s gotten older, they made it a very real, obvious thing. Now it’s 100% clear that he is gay and he does love Mike. But before, it was a slow arc. I think it is done so beautifully, because it’s so easy to make a character just like all of a sudden be gay. People have come up to me — I was just in Paris and this, like, 40-year-old man came up to me and he was like, “Wow, this Will character made me feel so good. And I related to it so much. That is exactly who I was when I was a kid.” That just made me so happy to hear. They are writing this real character and this real journey and real struggle and they’re doing it so well."

Along with continuous foreshadowing throughout the four-season run of the Netflix hit, the showrunners also previously teased that the character is indeed gay, making Will's confirmation no longer surprising. However, with Schnapp's latest revelation that Will is in love with Mike (Finn Wolfhard), that's where it all becomes complicated. Mike is now in a romantic relationship with Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), who is now Will's step-sister.

Nonetheless, regardless of sexuality, Will has been a key character from the beginning of Stranger Things, and it's absolutely compelling how Season 5 would conclude the character's arc. With Will feeling the strange sensation around his neck that usually means that a monster from the Upside Down is close or active in the conclusion of Season 4, this might hint that Will will once again be the center of the finale.
