Stranger Things Creators Compare Season 4 to Game of Thrones

The critically-acclaimed Netflix TV series Stranger Things is undoubtedly one of the streaming service's best. After the first season’s triumphant premiere in 2016, the fantasy/thriller series went on for two more seasons that were instantly met with more recognition as the season progresses. Now, Stranger Things is set to premiere the first half of the season finale on Netflix on May 27 and the second half will follow on July 1.

Based on recent teasers for Stranger Things Season 4, the season finale already looks promising. While we don't have a confirmed plot yet for the fourth season, recent trailers hint that the main cast will no longer live around the same neighborhood. With Hopper in Russia, Eleven and the Byers family in California and the remaining still lives in Hawkins, Indiana. Fortunately, all the original cast will reprise their roles in the final season, however, since the stars have now grown, the show will now revolve around a much more mature storyline.

Surely, there's much more to unravel with Stranger Things Season 4 when it premieres in May. And in a recent interview with Deadline, Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer compared the season to HBO's Game of Thrones, saying that the season will give the audience some long-awaited answers. See The Duffer Brother’s full quote is below:

Matt Duffer: We kind of jokingly call it our Game of Thrones season because it’s so spread out, so I think that’s what’s unique or most unique about the season. Joyce and Byers family to have left at the end of Season 3. They are in California – we’ve always wanted to have that like ‘E.T’.-esque suburb aesthetic, which we finally got to do this year in the desert; and then we have Hopper in Russia; and then of course we have a group remaining in Hawkins. So we have these three storylines, are all connected and kind of interwoven together, but it’s just very different tones.

Ross Duffer: [but] we didn’t know how big the season was going to get, and we didn’t even realize until we were about halfway through, just in terms of how much story that we wanted to tell this season. Game of Thrones is one thing we’ve referenced, but also for us really what it’s about is revelations, in that we really wanted to start giving the audience some answers.

Comparing Stranger Things 4 to another TV show as massive as Game of Thrones definitely adds more anticipation to the upcoming series. HBO's Game of Thrones was heavily criticized for its extensive storyline, production, and exciting battles and actions which might possibly be what Stranger Things Season 4 is aiming for. If Games of Thrones is the Duffer Bros.'s standard for Season 4, it certainly won't disappoint.

Hopefully, Stranger Things must indeed uncover some long-awaited questions about the series. While Season 4 won't be the show's last, it must pave the way for how the characters will officially close the upside down.

Stranger Things Season 4 will premiere on Netflix on May 27, and the second half will be released on July 1.
