Stoick Returns in NYCC Exclusive Clip from How to Train Your Dragon 3

Gerard Butler's Stoick the Vast may have died in How to Train Your Dragon 2, but it looks like he's still going to appear in the upcoming third movie, HTTYD: The Hidden World. NYCC 2018 brings us an exclusive clip and sees Stoick giving a speech to baby Hiccup.

Stoick's words may seem pretty inspiring, but if you put it into context from the first movie, his talk about humans and dragons no longer fighting pretty much means that he wanted to exterminate all of the dragons in their nest. At least the movie found a way to make Stoick give a good speech without breaking the development of his character over the films.

Though Stoick may have been a pretty standard figure in the first HTTYD movie, it was amazing how the sequel was able to give him a lot more depth. Originally, it was said that it was Gobber who was supposed to be killed, but they ultimately decided on Stoick because it was the more emotionally driven route.

I was kind of bummed that he never got to keep living with Valka after she agreed to come home with him.

Now chief and ruler of Berk alongside Astrid, Hiccup has created a gloriously chaotic dragon utopia. When the sudden appearance of female Light Fury coincides with the darkest threat their village has ever faced, Hiccup and Toothless must leave the only home they've known and journey to a hidden world thought only to exist in myth. As their true destines are revealed, dragon and rider will fight together—to the very ends of the Earth—to protect everything they've grown to treasure.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World hits theaters Feb. 22, 2019.
