The music industry’s golden couples are splitting up. Stevie J and Faith Evans have filed for divorce, ending their three-year marriage. Stevie J was the one that filed for divorce from Evans Monday at the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

The 50-year-old D.J., whose real name is Steven Aaron Jordan, married the “I’ll Be Missing You” singer in July 2018. The couple wed in a quiet ceremony inside a hotel room in Las Vegas, which surprised their family, friends, and fans.

Whirlwind Romance And Sudden Marriage

During their whirlwind romance and marriage, the two continued to express their love for each other on social media. Evans declared her love to the Grammy Award-winning music producer repeatedly on her personal social media account.

The two originally met in the early 90s as Stevie J worked with Evan’s then-husband, rapper, The Notorious B.I.G., aka Biggie. Evans married the late “Big Poppa” rapper in 1994 and remained married to him until he was murdered in 1997. Following Biggie’s death, Evans remarried to record executive Todd Russaw. She then divorced Russaw in 2011.

After Evans married Stevie J, she appeared in several “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta” episodes. The two also released a hit song together, titled “A Minute.” The two do not share any children together, but they do have children from previous relationships. Stevie currently has six kids from past relationships, while Evans has four, including a son Evan had with Biggie.

A Violent Streak

Stevie J’s decision to end his marriage with Evans comes just a year after the singer was arrested for domestic violence. Evans was arrested and taken into custody in May 2020. She and Stevie J reportedly got into a heated argument, which then turned into violence. When police arrived at the Los Angeles home they shared, they discovered Stevie J with wounds and visible scratches on his face.

Evans was eventually booked for felony domestic violence. She was later released on bond. Before the incident, Evans had published several cryptic posts on her Instagram account, talking about pain and the need for something in her life to change.

Stevie J also shared some cryptic posts on Twitter, adding further fuel to rumors about their failing marriage. The D.J. and record producer talked about insecurities and how “drunk people always speak their truth.” He also posted a tweet that said, “All that Glitters ain’t gold.”

A year before her arrest, there were reports indicating that their marriage was falling apart. The two had unfollowed each other on social media, sparking speculation that there might be trouble in paradise.

Apart from the domestic violence arrest, Evans has had previous run-ins with the law. In 2004, the “Tears of Joy” singer was arrested for cocaine and marijuana possession. In 2010, she was arrested again for drunk driving.
