Some actors receive their big break in Hollywood the moment they least expect it; that’s what happened to Joel Edgerton when he received the call from Lucasfilm to star in the multimillion-dollar franchise, Star Wars.
Edgerton portrayed Luke Skywalker’s destined adoptive father, Owen Lars, in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. The actor recently reprised the role in the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi.
In a new interview with The Playlist, Edgerton revisits his experience in the Star Wars prequels and claims returning as the character in Obi-Wan Kenobi served as a chance to finally do the role justice.
“I thought, ‘This is a chance for me to get it right. Because I was twenty-five or six at the time. I had no idea what I was doing. I had only worked in the theater and done a couple of small roles in films, and I was terrified.” he said.
Edgerton added: “So, the whole thing was a bit of a blur. And here I was, getting a chance to sort of say thank you to Lucasfilm and George [Lucas] and everyone there for handing me a chance to break open the doors of Hollywood.”
And to come back a bit more of a mature actor with a bit more confidence of knowing how I go about things…I feel more confident now.” he concluded.

The actor also said that working with Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen gave him the push he needed to go back to work in the epic space opera multimedia franchise.
“A reunion with Ewan and Hayden and all these guys – I was like, I shouldn’t question this at all. Even if there’s not necessarily some big meaty challenge as an actor. And I had a fantastic time, man!” described Edgerton.
He continued, “Just coming out of COVID. We were in L.A. and shooting in this quarry – the director there was incredible, the whole team was amazing, and it was a pleasure to be back at work, and it was a pleasure to be back at work feeling like I was also completing my little psychological circle, in a way.”
Even though a second season of Obi-Wan Kenobi is not yet confirmed, fans can hope that season 1 will not be the last time they see the best of Edgerton as Owen. After all, there is always something more to explore in a character.
