Star Wars Theory Explains Rey’s Controversial Plot Hole in The Rise of Skywalker

Lucasfilm might have had a lot riding on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, however, the film became one of the most divisive entries in Disney's Star Wars sequel trilogy. Putting too much effort into fan service, the film failed to offer viewers a cohesive narrative that would properly conclude the Skywalker saga.

Episode IX suffered from so many plot holes, one of which included Rey (Daisy Ridley) reaching out and saving Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) from the brink of death after their duel on the remains of the Death Star during the second act of the movie.

While the idea of healing someone using the Force isn't entirely new, The Rise of Skywalker introduces a brand new variation of Force Healing that fans can't quite grasp. In the film, fans get to see Rey transferring her own life force to the wayward son of Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Leia (Carrie Fisher). Where exactly does Rey learn this kind of move? If this move was available to all Jedi, why didn't Obi-Wan simply heal Qui-Gon Jinn? Why didn't Anakin just use some of his life force to save Padme?

A brand new theory posted on the Star Wars Theories subreddit offers a simple explanation – Rey had the benefit of studying the old ancient Jedi texts that she took from Ahch-To.

"She read the ancient texts. When she left Ahch-To in Episode VIII she took the old Jedi books with her on board the Falcon. Through studying these between Episodes VIII and IX, she learnt the ancient art of Force Healing," Reddit user u/ghostybiscuits explains.

It's a theory that adds up. Rey was able to use the Force in such a creative way because she had taken time to study the ancient Jedi texts.

Sure, it might sound a little convenient, but it does make sense.
