Star Wars: The Clone Wars Creator Says the Bad Batch 'Was All Right' from George Lucas

Star Wars: The Clone Wars is already two episodes in and fans are getting more excited for what's to come. The final season will deliver the highly-anticipated conclusion of these epic adventures and marks one of George Lucas' final projects before Lucasfilm was sold to Disney. In a new interview, creator Dave Filoni talks about the decisions he made as well as Lucas' influence on the seventh season.

"If you go back to the original series, what we put out in 2008, it's such a dramatic leap," Filoni shared with Entertainment Weekly. "But then you realize it's been 11 years since that show first aired, which is kind of striking for me that it's been so long." He says they were able to improve on the animation itself, and looking at the show now, Filoni thinks it's how Lucas and he envisioned it in the beginning. "We just didn't have the tools necessary to actually realize it then," FIloni added. "But over time with a lot of training, you know, like any good Jedi I learned my way."

The introduction of the Bad Batch is one of the best elements of the show, which we have Lucas to thank for; from the very idea of having these clones, down to their appearances. "Yes, we always had this bizarre hairstyle trend with clones where they would pick ways to individualize," Filoni said. "And the Bad Batch themselves, that was all right from George."

Filoni says George wanted to explore the idea of having clones that were "unique from one another" and are like a "special forces unit that had enhanced skills." When these characters were made, they ought to "feel special in what their abilities could be," but at the same time, they weren't exactly made to be superheroes. "Wrecker should not be the Hulk, even though we love the Hulk and those types of stories," Filoni continued. "That's not what Star Wars is. So we had to keep it all kind of within the reality of Star Wars."
