Star Wars Rumor Says Lucasfilm Is Resetting The Franchise

Talk about Lucasfilm resetting the Star Wars franchise has started running around the rumor mill again.

Back in November there were reports saying that Star Wars: Episode IX was being considered a turning point for the franchise with rumors saying that Lucasfilm was hoping to turn the third and final installment in the sequel trilogy into a "course correction" for the franchise after the box office stumble of Solo: A Star Wars Story.

But that's not all. Outside of the Star Wars spinoff, traditional fans had also been hoping for major changes to the franchise after Star Wars: The Last Jedi premiered in December last year. While the film enjoyed both critical and commercial success, a small and vocal group of fans felt outraged by the film's decision to subvert fan expectations.

Now, word has it that Lucasfilm just might be planning to course correct itself. According to Star Wars Fan Site Rebel Scum, Disney has just decided to cancel LEGO Star Wars Day, a popular fan event that's usually being held every Spring at LEGOLAND California. With 2019's LEGO Star Wars Day officially cancelled, then 2018's celebration would be the last of LEGO Star Wars Day for the next few years.

More importantly, the site also reports that an unnamed source indicated that "the motivation (behind the cancellation) was to refocus expenditure and limit Star Wars exposure to reset the franchise and allow fans to heal."

While it's definitely easy to run with the thought of Lucasfilm beginning a "course correction" for the franchise, fans have to remember to take the report with a grain of salt. Rumors can't be trusted, especially when they come from unnamed sources.

Besides, if the studio were planning to slow down the franchise, then why is Lucasfilm having a go at Star Wars: Mandalorian and reportedly, Obi-Wan Kenobi?

Star Wars: Episode IX is set to premiere December 21, 2019.
