Star Wars Resistance’s Leia Organa Gets Re-Cast After Controversial Video

Rachel Butera might have been credited as the voice actress for the role of General Leia Organa in Lucasfilm's new animated series, Star Wars Resistance, but it looks like the studio has decided to recast the part because of the controversy surrounding the voice star.

This week's episode of Star Wars Resistance, the new "Station Theta Black," has Carolyn Hennesy voicing Leia for the series, taking Butera's place on the show. On IMDb, Star Wars fans get to see the full list of the episodes cast and crew, and it's very clear that Butera has been replaced on the series.

While having a role in an animated series recast isn't entirely big news, there's been a lot of controversy surrounding Butera as of late. It's very likely that the voice actress was let go after she posted a controversial video earlier this year mocking Dr. Christine Blasey Ford who had testified in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee to defend her claims that she had been sexually assaulted by Brett Kavanaugh.

In the video that she posted on her Twitter account, Butera made fun of Ford's voice, mimicking the alleged victim of Kavanaugh and going on a spree.

"I know it's a surprise to even me that I talk this way and I'm a doctor and a grown woman. I sound like I'm still back at that high school party...um...I can't help it, I just have this kind of a voice like a baby, even though I'm a doctor. And I'm on this media circus, political stage, and I have kids myself. I don't know why I speak with vocal fry, um, but you can listen to my testimony and hear that a grown woman sounds this way. Dr. Blasey Ford, thank you," Butera poked fun in her video.

Netizens were quick to call out Butera saying that the Star Wars Resistance voice actress mocking a rape victim was both offensive and disgusting. Deleting the video, Butera then tried to defend herself by saying that her intention was not to mock Ford but to imitate her voice.

Now, it seems like Disney's decided to let Butera go, replacing her on Star Wars Resistance.

Star Wars Resistance airs every Sunday night on Disney Channel.
