Star Wars’ Oscar Isaac Still Feels Carrie Fisher’s Presence While Working On Episode IX

Star Wars legend Carrie Fisher might have passed away after experiencing cardiac arrest due to sleep apnea and atherosclerosis back in December 2016, but to her sequel trilogy co-star Oscar Isaac, he can still feel the presence of the late Leia Organa around while shooting scenes for Star Wars: Episode IX.

Speaking in an interview with the USA Today, the actor who plays Lucasfilm's sequel trilogy Resistance hotshot pilot Poe Dameron admits that filming Episode IX serves as a bittersweet reminder of all the time he spent with Fisher. Dameron and Fisher worked pretty closely on Star Wars: The Last Jedi, their character's arcs tied together in the sequel to The Force Awakens. In one scene, Fisher slapped Isaac more than forty times – remember that part in The Last Jedi where Leia demotes Poe because of his trigger-happy arrogance?

Dameron had some pretty good times with Fisher on the set of The Last Jedi, and now, according to the actor, it "always" feels like she's around the cast and crew as the team films the third and final installment in the sequel trilogy.

"Of course she's with us," the actor tells the publication during the interview.

That's not the only thing that Isaacs has to say. The Star Wars actor also just recently gave an update on the status of the Resistance in Star Wars: Episode IX, saying that the group of rebels "are guerrilla fighters, adhering closer to something like the Revolutionary War fighters or even the guerrillas in Cuba with Che and Fidel and all these guys living in the mountains, coming down to do some attacks, and going back and trying to hide from the 'empire' of the United States. It's that kind of ragged at this point."

Based on the actor's comments, it seems like Leia's going to have the Resistance up and running again once Episode IX makes its way to the big screen. We can't wait to see what stories this film is going to bring.
