Oscar Isaac might have been titular character in X-men: Apocalypse, but according to the Star Wars actor playing the villain was just "excruciating."
Isaac just recently spoke with GQ about his time on the set of X-Men: Apocalypse, and according to the actor, Apocalypse's costume and make-up effects made it absolutely terrible for him to play the villain. According to the X-Men star, the restrictive costume limited his head movements, cutting him off from hanging out with his other Apocalypse castmates like James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, and Michael Fassbender.
"Apocalypse, that was excruciating. I didn't know, when I said yes, that that was what was going to be happening — that I was going to be encased in glue, and latex, and in a 40-pound suit that I had to wear a cooling mechanism at all times," Isaac lamented in his interview with GQ.
Not only was the actor isolated because of his costume, but his sitting arrangements were also pretty limited – apparently Isaac could only sit on a specially designed saddle because of his outfit.
"I was like, ‘oh, I get to work with these great actors that I like so much,' but I couldn't even see them because I couldn't move my head. And I had to sit on a specially designed saddle, because that's the only thing I could really sit on, and I would be rolled into a cooling tent in-between takes," said Isaac.
Acting sure takes a lot of work. While viewers might gush over the glitz and glamour of stardom, they usually don't see the grit that it takes to work in heavily enhanced films. Oscar wasn't the only one to complain about his X-Men experience though. Jennifer Lawrence also had problems with her outfit, complaining about the body paint that she has to inhale every time she gets dressed as Mystique.
Lawrence, McAvoy, and Fassbender are set to reprise their roles for Dark Phoenix which premieres on June 7, 2019.
