Star Wars: Oscar Isaac Reacts To The Last Jedi Backlash, Says 'It's Not Shocking'

It's no secret that Star Wars: The Last Jedi suffered from some major backlash when the sequel was released last year. Interestingly, Oscar Isaac believes that the fan reaction was "not shocking" at all.

Isaac recently spoke to Indiewire about his upcoming projects including Star Wars: Episode IX. The TLJ star admitted that he wasn't surprised about how people reacted to the film.

"You make a movie and people are supposed to like, or not like it, or not care about it," he said. "Those are the only three options. So it's not shocking that one of those things happened."

The X-Men: Apocalypse actor also compared the TLJ fan reaction to how people felt about George Lucas' Star Wars prequels.

"People had very strong feelings, but there wasn't as much of an organized way to speak out about it," Isaac said. "People that run blogs and websites need content. So it's like, ‘There's some content!' Five people on Twitter. Hundreds. Whatever it is. Then you make it into a story."

Isaac stated that he isn't really concerned about what people are saying about The Last Jedi. "Luckily, since I'm not directing it, producing it, or distributing it, I don't have to worry so much about fan expectations," he said.

Poe Dameron certainly had a lot to do in TLJ but it's still unclear how his storyline will evolve in Star Wars: Episode IX. Let's hope that J.J. Abrams' involvement in the final installment of the trilogy will wrap it up perfectly for the Resistance pilot.

Episode IX is currently in production and is expected to continue filming until early 2019. Isaac shared that he will be taking a long break once he is done with the sequel.

Star Wars: Episode IX is scheduled for release on December 20, 2019.
