It can't be denied that Anakin Skywalker and Padme Amidala's relationship was a pivotal part of the Star Wars franchise. However, the beginning of their "forbidden" affair was always the subject of discourse amongst fans because we all know that it started with a young Anakin developing feelings for Padme who was five years older than her.

Well, turns out that even Natalie Portman is well aware of the issues surrounding Anakin and Padme's shortlived union.

In an old interview that recently resurfaced online (via FandomWire), the prequel trilogy actress acknowledged how problematic her character was, even going as far as saying that she only fell for Anakin because of his looks.

She said: "All of a sudden he comes back and she’s like wow you know he’s grown up into this handsome young Hayden Christensen. So their relationship really goes from this sort of her looking down on this younger guy to him sort of proving himself as a real force. Padme is attracted to Anakin mainly for his looks. I mean let’s be honest."

The Thor franchise star added: "He allows her to be a little less serious about herself and laugh a little and you know fall in love. It’s really a struggle for her to say you know Can I be selfish and fall in love with myself when I have all these aspirations. And all these things I need to accomplish. She sees the sort of darkness to him but obviously that’s always intriguing."

Last month, the Academy Award-winning star expressed her desire to reprise her role in the franchise, although she claims that Lucasfilm has yet to reach out to her.

Considering Portman's prequel trilogy co-stars have returned to Star Wars over the last couple of years, the idea of Padme appearing in another project doesn't sound too farfetched.
