Star Wars: Joel Edgerton Credits George Lucas For Successful Career

There is little doubt that being part of the Star Wars Universe is a huge honor for any actor. So it's no surprise that Joel Edgerton says George Lucas is responsible for his successful career.

Joel Edgerton first played Owen Lars in the Star Wars prequel trilogy, taking over the role originated by Phil Brown in A New Hope.

Attack of the Clones was Joel Edgerton's first major Hollywood role and not surprisingly, he looks back at it and is grateful to George Lucas for casting him as young Owen.

"I owe so much in my career to George giving me that job: it opened all the doors to Hollywood," Edgerton told NME.

"It allowed everyone in L.A. to kind of welcome me and go, 'Oh, he's in Star Wars. Let's give him an audition for other things'. So I put aside any of my reticence [about returning] and I saw it as a way to complete a circle of some kind," he added.

Joel Edgerton certainly got a lot of awesome parts since appearing in the Star Wars prequel films. Still, he got to reprise the role in Obi-Wan Kenobi and Edgerton says it's a part he enjoys.

"I've always joked that Uncle Owen is the most boring character in Star Wars history because he's a moisture farmer and he doesn't get to wield a lightsaber. And I'm always cheeky about the way I talk about Uncle Owen!" he said.

Edgerton added, "Everybody thinks that Uncle Owen is a grumbly, cantankerous 'say no' dude. I was like, 'This is my opportunity to put a bit more context on that, and have people maybe like him a little bit more'. And I think we did that."

It was certainly great to see Uncle Owen again in Obi-Wan Kenobi and we look forward to seeing more of Joel Edgerton in the future, thanks to George Lucas' decision to cast him in the prequels.
