Star Wars: Is George Lucas Returning to Write Cassian Andor Series?

There is little doubt that fans are hoping that George Lucas would return to work on a major Star Wars project. But what are the chances that the man who created Star Wars will be back to write for the upcoming Cassian Andor series? A new rumor claims that Lucas is coming out of retirement to pen the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story prequel that will air on Disney+.

People recently went nuts when a rumor suggested that Lucas has signed on as executive producer and writer for the Cassian Andor series that will bring back Diego Luna as the titular character from Rogue One. If this were true, this would be the first time that Lucas would work on a Star Wars project since Disney acquired Lucasfilm back in 2012.

So is it true? Unfortunately, this isn't happening at all. It's highly unlikely that Lucas would come out of retirement to work on a show that has nothing to do with the original trilogy. In addition to that, ABC reporter Clayton Sandell debunked the rumor on Twitter.

"FACT CHECK: No, George Lucas is NOT returning to write/produce/direct the Cassian Andor series for Disney+. Yes, I'm embarrassed to say I checked into it and bothered actual sources. This has been Friday's edition of Debunking Ridiculous Star Wars Clickbait Rumors. As you were," he wrote.

It's important to point out that although Lucas still gets to check on the new Star Wars projects, he now has no control over the direction the franchise is taking. This might not be what we want to hear but there is little doubt that Lucasfilm and Disney are trying their best.

The Cassian Andor series has not yet been given an official release date.
