Mark Hamill remains the longest-tenured actor in Star Wars and even after the Skywalker Saga concluded, he was still involved in various projects post-sequel trilogy, including The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett where he played a younger version of Luke Skywalker.
If fans had things their way, it's almost certain that they would want the Hollywood icon to continue playing the part for as long as he could. However, Hamill doesn't seem too keen on the idea and according to him, the franchise no longer needs his services.
Star Wars Legend Mark Hamill No Longer Sees Any Reason to Return as Luke Skywalker
It looks like the end of an era could be upon us. In a new interview with CBS News’ Sunday Morning (via Variety), Hamill reiterated his desire to retire his mantle as the famed Jedi Master.
While the 71-year-old actor admits that the ball isn't exactly in his court, he says he doesn't see any reason to return to the franchise since he's done everything there is to accomplish during his stint.
Hamill said: "Well, you never say never, but I just don’t see any reason to. Let me put it that way: I mean, they have so many stories to tell, they don’t need Luke anymore. I had my time, and that’s good. But that’s enough."

Last month, Hamill already expressed his desire to step away from the Star Wars franchise for good, saying that he no longer feels the need to play Luke Skywalker, especially a younger version of the character.
Interestingly, rumors are swirling across the web that Hamill is actually returning for Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's 2025 film starring Daisy Ridley. He already dismissed the prospect but for all we know, he might just be trying his best to refrain from dishing out spoilers.
Personally, as much as I'd like to see Hamill return for the part, I totally get where he is coming from, and should Lucasfilm actually feel the need to do more with the character, especially New Republic-era Luke, I don't think it would hurt if they just do a recast.
