Star Wars’ Filming Request Got Snubbed By The Queen’s Crown Estate

The Star Wars film franchise might be one of Hollywood's most massive and powerful science fiction franchises, however, Lucasfilm still gets turned away every now and then with the most recently reported snubs coming from Queen Elizabeth II herself.

Her Majesty's estate isn't really a stranger to requests for filming, however, during a recent interview with BBC about the park's use as one of the locations in Simon Curtis' British film, Goodbye ChristopherRobin, an estate person mentioned that the Queen's park actually had to turn down Star Wars filming request a few years ago.

"Our head isn't turned by star names or star films," the spokesperson told the publication when it asked for the reason why it turned Lucasfilm down.

The answer might come off as terribly snobbish, but then representatives then went on to explain that the Crown Estate didn't want to have a crowd.

"The location they were interested in wasn't suitable for large numbers of people in there," the Crown Estate's head of commercial operations, Nick Day, elaborated. "Our priority is to maintain and protect Windsor Great Park and we can facilitate film crews if we're sure the risk to the park is minimal. But Star Wars is a huge machine, and there's also massive outside interest in those sort of things. It wasn't right for here."

While royal rejection doesn't really sound taste or feel that good, Her Majesty's Crown Estate seems to have very good reasons for turning Star Wars away. It'd be difficult having fans and paparazzi flood the park with Lucasfilm shooting at the estate.

Lucasfilm's next sequel trilogy installment, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, premieres on December 15, 2017.
