Star Wars Fans Forced To Remove Roadside AT-ST Replica

Why didn't the Ewoks think of this one? A Star Wars fan is being forced to pull down a massive 14-foot AT-ST replica he has placed as a roadside attraction.

According to Daily Mail, Paul Parker had set the Chicken Walker on the side of the road near the A38 just outside of Ashburton in Devon earlier this November. The structure, which was built by welder Dean Harvey, was intended to be a roadside attraction that would encourage other Star Wars fans in the UK to visit the town. However, the local council disagrees with Parker and has given the man 21 days to remove the Scout Walker.

Parker is clearly dismayed with the council's decision to have the AT-ST removed. He says that "it's not doing any harm from what I can see but the council says it's a fixed structure and it doesn't have planning permission" but he is planning to "fight it."

Harvey had originally built the AT-ST as a slide for his daughters but had loaned it to Parker when the children outgrew the structure. The welder says that the Chicken Walker, which looks remarkably similar to the one that was featured in Return of the Jedi, cost up to £12,000 (around $15,400).

The council might not be impressed with the structure but Parker is getting a lot of support from fellow Star Wars fans. Some are encouraging Parker to defend his right to set up the structure to protect the Galactic Empire, or at least just keep the AT-ST for tourism's sake.

A representative from the Teignbridge District Council says that Parker has not yet been issued an enforcement notice.
