Ahead of Star Wars Celebration 2023 where it was announced that a returningDaisy Ridley will headline the flick, the duo sent shockwaves to the fandom after news broke out that they're no longer attached to the film helmed by Ms. Marvel director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy.

Conflicting reports have since surfaced about their shocking decision to depart from the anticipated film but rumors have been persistent that Lucasfilm didn't like Lindelof's first draft.

Speaking of his script, he apparently wanted the film to be set six decades after The Rise of Skywalker, with Rey being played by a different actress. As it stands, current plans call for it to make a 15-year time jump with Rey establishing her own Jedi Order.

This new bit of information comes from Jeff Sneider who stated on The Hot Mic podcast that Lindelof was eyeing screen legend and Shazam! Fury of the Gods star Helen Mirren to potentially play an older Rey.

Shockingly enough, some fans are actually on board with the idea of Mirren replacing Ridley in the film and they're quite bummed out it didn't come to fruition. Check out some of the reactions below:

There's no doubt that Lindelof is a true visionary but I think we can all agree that his supposed Star Wars scheme is a little too audacious. Thankfully, Lucasfilm stepped in.

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's untitled Star Wars film is expected to hit theaters in 2025.
