Star Wars: Ewan McGregor Wanted to Do Obi-Wan Kenobi Series Because of Trainspotting 2

There is little doubt that fans are excited to see Ewan McGregor's return as the Jedi Master in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. McGregor himself is understandably hyped up for the show but he has also admitted that there was an interesting reason why he agreed to return to the Star Wars Universe. Amazingly, he was convinced that it was the best time for Kenobi's comeback after working on Trainspotting 2!

In 2017, Ewan McGregor reunited with the cast of the 1996 Danny Boyle flick Trainspotting, giving fans a chance to revisit Mark Renton and the gang. Interestingly, McGregor told Total Film that he was initially hesitant to work on the sequel but it turned out to be such an amazing experience that he chose to work on another Star Wars project.

"I didn't want a sequel to Trainspotting to tarnish the reputation of Trainspotting because I loved it so much. And then slowly, I just started thinking, 'I do want to do it. Why wouldn’t you?'" McGregor said.

"And the same thing happened with Obi-Wan. I believe that if you've explored a character in your work, somewhere they live in that compartment of your brain. They're still in there, and it's not very difficult to get them out again, I found," he concluded.

It's great to know that Trainspotting 2 helped McGregor make the decision to return as Obi-Wan Kenobi. After all, it's an opportunity that people have been looking forward to for a long time. With that in mind, Star Wars fans are grateful for the Trainspotting sequel since it made the new Disney+ series possible.

Obi-Wan Kenobi will also bring back Star Wars prequel film actors Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader, Joel Edgerton as Owen Lars, and Bonnie Piesse as Beru Lars. The show will premiere on Disney+ on May 27, 2022.
