Star Wars: Episode IX’s Oscar Isaac Talks About Carrie Fisher’s Spirit And Her Role

Carrie Fisher may have long since passed, but Star Wars fans are going to see her one last time in Star Wars: Episode IX. Lucasfilm is bringing back Leia Organa in its third and final sequel trilogy installment, using unused footage taken from the production of previous entries, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Though fans have yet to see any sort of footage from Episode IX, sequel trilogy star Oscar Isaac promises everyone that Carrie's presence can definitely be felt in the film.

Speaking in an interview with Today, Isaac spoke about Fisher's passing and how the Star Wars legend continued to play a significant part of the Star Wars saga.

"We've thought about her so much. Her spirit is there (in the film)," Isaac told the entertainment news outlet.

Isaac had become close friends with Fisher during the production of Episode IX. The two shared many scenes together, one of which included multiple slapping of Poe Dameron, a moment that Fisher thoroughly enjoyed.

The actor then went on to mention that Fisher's daughter, Billie Lourd, would be reprising her role as Connix in Episode IX. Then he goes on stressing that Fisher's spirit was still on set of Episode IX.

"Billie Lourd, her daughter, came and played a part, a part that she played in the last film as well, the last couple of films. Her spirit was definitely there with us and we're missing her," Isaac said.

In a previous interview, Isaac also promised that Episode IX would deal with Fisher's absence "in a really beautiful way," something which we look forward to in the film.

Fisher was one of the best things about the franchise. Not only was she the Resistance General and Sassy Space Princess that everyone looked up to, but she was also a writer and mental health advocate. We honestly miss Carrie so much, we might need a lot of tissue watching Episode IX.

Star Wars: Episode IX premieres December 20, 2019.
