Star Wars: Episode IX Theory Reveals How Rey Can Be A Skywalker Without TLJ Retcon

There are several reasons why Star Wars: The Last Jedi is one of the most talked-about films of 2017. For one, the Rian Johnson movie finally confirmed that Rey didn't have special parents. But is it possible that Rey could still be revealed as a Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode IX? A new theory suggests that there is a simple way for the character to take on the title without necessitating a TLJ retcon.

The possibility may have been hinted at in the novel Thrawn: Alliances as it is revealed that only a Force-sensitive pilot can navigate the Unknown Regions. Interestingly, the Chiss refer to these Force users as "Skywalkers." This certainly fits with Anakin and Luke Skywalker's piloting skills. It might also explain how Rey managed to fly the Millennium Falcon without problems.

This isn't the only way that Rey could be considered a Skywalker in Episode IX. According to ScreenRant, her heroic actions in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi could earn her the right to be considered the rightful heir to Luke Skywalker's legend. Although the Skywalker family could end in Episode IX, the name could live on as Rey takes on the title and continues to save the galaxy from any incoming threats.

Of course, there's a simpler way that Rey could become a Skywalker. She could marry Kylo Ren and become Mrs. Ben (Skywalker) Solo but that doesn't seem like something J.J. Abrams would explore in Episode IX. In the meantime, this could prove that there are several ways that Rey can take the name at the end of the Skywalker Saga. However, it's important to point out that these are still based on speculations so it is best to take it with a grain of salt.

Star Wars: Episode IX is scheduled for release on December 20.
