Star Wars Episode IX Rumor Says Lando Calrissian Is Playing A Larger Role In The Movie

Lucasfilm might be keeping a close eye on the secrets of Star Wars: Episode IX, however, rumors continue to feed the Star Wars fanbase's insatiable thirst for Star Wars news.

The newest rumor that's been running up and down the Star Wars rumor mill suggests that Lando Calrissian is going to have a larger role in Episode IX, a tidbit that's long been speculated by the fanbase ever since Lucasfilm announced that Billy Dee Williams would return to reprise his role as the sexy and suave Star Wars smuggler.

According to Mirror, word has it that the new trailer for Episode IX would include shots of Chewbacca and Lando standing alongside Rey (Daisy Ridley). Clad in black Jedi Robes, Rey has on her belt what seems to be a modified version of Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber. Fans might remember that the lightsaber was torn into two during the climactic battle sequence between Rey and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver).

Word about Lando interacting with Rey has sparked speculation that the smuggler might actually be traveling together with the Force Sensitive Jakku Orphan, allowing him a larger role in Episode IX. It would be a welcome expansion too. Now that Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) are dead and gone, it would make sense for Lando to have an increased role in the upcoming film. Besides, Lando's been absent from the past two Star Wars sequel trilogy installments. An increased role would make up for his absence.

Star Wars: Episode IX hits cinemas December 21, 2018.
