Star Wars: Episode IX Director J.J. Abrams Teases Fans About Lando Calrissian

Lucasfilm might have been keeping its lid shut about Star Wars: Episode IX the past two months, but it looks like director J.J. Abrams finally has a little bit of news about the upcoming Star Wars film, talking about one Episode IX actor in particular.

Attending the 14th Annual Oscar Wilde Awards at Bad Robot last week, Abrams went on an interview with Entertainment Tonight and decided to tease fans with what little info he can share about the third and final installment in Lucasfilm's sequel trilogy.

During his discussion with the entertainment news outlet, Abrams had nothing but great words for Star Wars legend Billy Dee Williams, showering the actor with praise.

"I gotta tell you, I had such unbelievable respect for him," said Abrams, "He was wonderful... He just had this aura around him. He's really an incredible man and an incredible actor."

Williams return came as a pleasant surprise to fans. The actor's role in Episode IX was confirmed in July last year. After the loss of both Han Solo (the character died in Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Carrie Fisher (the Star Wars legend passed away in December 2016), fans were glad to know that Lucasfilm was bringing back a fan-favorite smuggler.

Aside from Lando, ET also decided to ask Abrams more about Episode IX, however, the director remained pretty tight-lipped.

"There are a lot of words that we all hope that you feel," he said. "And obviously the biggest, most important one I think is 'satisfied.'"

Guess we'll have to continue holding out till Lucasfilm decides to drop the first teaser for Episode IX.

Star Wars: Episode IX premieres December 20, 2019.
